Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The track is a mixture of pop music and reggaeton was not only a way to bring renewed interest for reggaeton, it also brought attention towards Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs composed in Spanish predominantly, as well as another four in the year 2016. In the midst of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 the number of songs that made it was 41. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, popular artistes began to collaborate with reggaeton singers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018), and Madonna collaborated with Maluma in Medellin. Reggaeton's most prominent performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw alejandro, was trying to change the course. In his music, he often used elements from electronic dance music, and various other types.
